Animals play an important role of human life. Wild animal is a kind that normally lives in the wild, for example: elephants, tigers, rhinos and many others. They live in the wild with spacious and natural environment, however many humans kept them in the zoo, as an attraction for the sake of the money. They didn’t think of the wild animals habitat, and there are some problems arise from keeping them in cages. The shock of being in captivity would depress the animals; they would even act hysterically and might hurt people near them. And it is not the animal to be fault.
There are three main reasons why wild animals should not be kept in the zoos: Firstly, the ecosystem became unbalanced. If the humans kept the wild animals in the zoo, they will ruin the food chain. For instance, plants are provided by the nature, being eaten by the reindeers then the tigers hunt reindeers for their food. If the tigers were being captured by the humans and kept in cages, we humans instantly break the chain. And the consequences are we going to have a dramatic increase in reindeer’s population and more plants are being consumed. (Tutorvista, 2010) Secondly, the lack of freedom and space in the zoo.
Animals were being kept in cramped and small cages. Even though they were made similar to the animal’s natural environment, but still it is different. Tigers need to run a lot, but kept in the zoo where it is lack of spacious area. They need to hunt for their own food, however while in the zoo the foods are provided. There is no freedom for the animals for being kept by humans. Worst case possible is animals would get depressed and attack people randomly. People should not blame the animals if they got attacked; it is their own fault for keeping the animals in cages.
And then the last main reason is animals are born naturally in the wild and us humans cannot provide them what nature gives for their needs. This is the crucial motive where animals should be freed in the wild or in this case their own natural habitat. They will lose their basic instinct to protect themselves; the animals would not survive in the wild once they are freed. Wild animals would not be wild anymore; the humans have tamed them. Their natural behavior will change. Some people agree that animals should be kept in the zoo.
They said it would be safer for the animals and they won’t be extinct. The amount of possibilities of them dying, shot by hunters or any other reason, still higher than the chances of their survival. Food and shelter are provided, medicine, and their breeding is being controlled. And many of the wild animals in zoos are ones that are on the endangered list as their amounts are rapidly diminishing. Letting them loose and returning them to the wild is not necessarily a safe option. (Mylot, 2007) In fact, zoo can be one of the educational studies for children and people who are interested with animals.
Zoo is the only place that we can have an opportunity to see animal’s life really close and sometimes we can touch them. Zoos also provide lots of information about certain animals, children can have chance to get out of the classroom and learn so they can see natural beauty from different species of animals. Even children can see them from discovery channel but that’s really different if you see animal in real world, for an example, if you see crocodile, snake or shark in the movie, maybe you won’t afraid than you see the real one. According to Tudge, (1992, p. 6) Zoos are the place where people can study animals and their habitat, even scientist don’t need to go out to other countries to studied them. However, it is not fair for the wild animals. They are kept in a small cramped cage and being shown as some kind of attraction. This could be considered as animal cruelty, humans don’t care how the animals feeling. They only care how much money they would get by exhibiting the animals. Animals do have feelings too, they can be lonely, sad, depressed. In conclusion, animals should not be kept in the zoos.
They should have been freed in the wild, in the nature where they truly belong. “Animals are born wild; they should live and die wild. It is also wrong because the animals don’t get to behave naturally, like hunting their prey, breeding, and social activities. All of these things would help them adapt to the captivity in a healthier way. ” (Animals should not be kept in zoo, 2010) God didn’t make us in a cage or as an attraction for others, which are why we should just let the animals live freely and help them by not ruining their homes with our viciousness.
Nowadays, many animals lose their own homes because human take their environment like illegal or legal logging, bush fire and also hunt them and eat them. Humans just care about their business and money. There is even a case where we humans are eating the wild animals. There is one director of culinary technology at the International Culinary Center’s French Culinary Institute that given a recipe how to cook black bear’s meat, Lions, even raccoons. (Relaxnews, 2010) This is inappropriate; there are lots of extinct animals such as Garuda, Dodo, Japan wolf, Moa, Woolly Rhinoceros and others.
It is really cruel because animals also have rights even they are animals. Although sometimes the wild animals are kind of terrifying if we met them face to face, but if they don not feel like their home is being disturbed they would not hurt us. People should stop their habit of destroying the earth, hunting the poor animals, and we would live peacefully side-by-side without any barrier. “Pictures of Food Chains. ” Science. http://www. tutorvista. com/science/pictures-of-food-chains .
